Water Activities like belly breathing, listening to calming music, and getting enough sleep can help children of all types when they are feeling stressed. These practices help provide clarity and insight into life’s sometimes challenging circumstances.

Kids with the natural powers of water have the gift of stillness with an ability to listen to the deep whisperings that lie beneath the surface. Water kids may grow to become poets, philosophers, or inventors!

Exercise and play are important for any child, especially Wood children whose super power is GRIT! So head outside and enjoy the summer weather with your child. Wood Power connotes movement, growth and freedom.

The Wood child loves to move and build and achieve. He or she may be the captain of the baseball or basketball team at school. Wood Kids also love to move! Encourage your Wood Child to walk in nature where he can naturally begin to see all the interconnectedness and beauty among the diverse ecosystems in our changing world. He will establish a foundation of understanding that will become more present in personal relationships as well.

It’s now officially summertime, which is a great time to explore Fire Power. We exercise Fire Power by relaxing, having fun, and playing. The Fire Child is humorous and inspires others through her passionate optimism. We can always count on the innate power of the Fire Child to encourage a retreated Water Child to re-enter the world and celebrate joy!

Fire Kids do whatever it takes to experience joy because they need joy to feel safe and at ease in the world. If it’s not fun, Fire Kids likely won’t be motivated to do it. Parents might consider ways to make mundane tasks more exciting by making a game out of them, or playing fun music during clean up time. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

According to the dictionary, the meaning of the word “Yoga” is “union”. It is derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj,” (pron. “yug”) meaning “to join,” “to unite” but also “to subjugate,” with the meaning also “to control” and “to discipline.” The English word “yoke” is also derived from the same Sanskrit (Indo-European) root.

Yoga is a movement that combines exercise, breathing and stillness, which are Wood, Gold and Water activities. This makes yoga a terrific activity to balance overwhelm and anxiety. Doing it with your kids helps grow the parent-child relationship as well, which supports Earth and Fire powers!
